MUSICAL POTLUCK NO. 1
On this program, we’ll share the Divertimento for Oboe and Bassoon by Dario Argentesi, performed by Carol Rothrock, oboe and Tom Schubert, bassoon, with a special addition by Elise Fahey, dancer. Paul Miller, clarinet, Maria Janus, soprano and Stephanie Weaver will perform Schubert’s Der Hirt auf dem Felsen, a beautiful lied that expresses both feelings of grief and loneliness, but also hopefulness in anticipation of spring and rebirth. Violinists Jennifer Khoe and David Bracher will perform Norwegian composer Johan Halversen’s Passacaglia on a theme by Handel. We’ll wrap up the program with selected movements from Ravel’s celebrated Le Tombeau de Couperin, arranged for reed quintet by the Calefax Quintet of Denmark, and performed here by Heather Marks-Soady, oboe, Bob Barnhart, clarinet, Steve Shields, saxophone, Tom Schubert, bassoon, and Gabe Merton, bass clarinet. We’ll also be joined by 2019 LJS&C Young Artists Competition winner, violist Pearl de la Motte, who will be performing Bach’s beautiful Prelude to Suite No. 3.
